“WOMEN IN ISLAM”
Authored by: oonk
Islam as rahmatal lil’alamin religion respects the dignity of women, they have a high status in Islam and have great influence in social life because the number of women is more than men. Al-Qur’an has been explained how important the role of women, whether as mother, wife, sister, or even as a child. Similarly, with their rights and their obligations. The existence of these things has also been described by the prophet Muhammad.
The role of women is very important because the growth and development of a generation depend on women and many heavy burdens that must be faced by them, even the burdens that should be done by men. Therefore, it is obligation for us to thanks very much to our mother, obeys their order as well as possible and being polite to them. The position of mothers towards their children more precedence than the position of father. It is mentioned in Surah Luqman verse 14 and Surah Al-Ahqaf verse 15:

"And we ordered to man (to do well) to his parents, his mother had conceived him in a state of weakness that increases steadily, and weaning in two years. Thank to me and your parents. Only to me you will return. "(Luqman: 14)

"And we ordered to man in order to do well to his parents. His mother had conceived and given birth difficulty. Containing and weaning are thirty months. "( Al-Ahqaf: 15)
In one story, some day there was a man came to the Prophet Muhammad and said “hi…prophet Muhammad, who is the most eligible person for me to respect?” prophet answers, “Your mother” The man asked again, “who is after my mother?” prophet answers, “Your mother” The man asked again, “who is after my mother? Prophet answers, “Your mother” The man asked again, ”who is after my mother? Prophet answers “Your father”.
From the story above, we can conclude that Islam is very precedence to women than men and we must respect more to our mother than to our father. Then, the role of women is great very much in a family not only to their children but also to their husband in order to create a harmony family.
Indeed, we could see a good example in this issue of Khadijah, the wife of Prophet Muhammad who had given great contribution when Prophet Muhammad was visited by angel “Gabriel” who brought the first revelation in the cave of Hira’. Prophet Muhammad went home tremble and almost fainting, at that time Khadijah helped him and made him calm down, (Buchori, Bad’ al-Wahyi, page.3, and Muslim, al-Iman, page.160). We also must not forget the role of Aisha, many of prophet Muhammad’s friends who had received Hadith from her dealing with Islamic law.
We agree that the rights granted to women in islam has explained by Al- Qur'an and hadith were a vast improvement in comparison to the situation of women before Islam comes. Al- Qur'an makes it clear that they are the same. It is explained in Surah An Nahl vers 97.
